തന്റെ മടിയിലേക്ക്‌ തന്നെ വന്നാൽ ഒരു ചിപ്പിക്ക്‌
എത്രമാത്രം വേദനയുണ്ടാകുമോ അത്രയും
വേദനയോടെ മറിയം ഇരുന്നു. കരയുവാന്‍
കണ്ണുനീരില്ല; ഉരിയാടുവാന്‍ വാക്കുകളില്ല. ;
കത്താനോ, ഉരുകുവാനോ കഴിയാത്ത
ഹൃദയഭാരത്താല്‍ വിങ്ങുകയാണവര്‍.

ചുമടുമായിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന മറിയത്തേയും വിവരിച്ചു ;
കൊടുത്ത ഗൈഡിന്റോടും വത്തിക്കാനോടും
മൈക്കലാഞുലോവിനോടും കവി നന്ദി ;
പ്രകാശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, ഒരായിരം നന്ദി.
അങ്ങയുടെ കൈകള്‍ ഞാന്‍ ചുംബിക്കുന്നു.

ചിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാന്‍ ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
അല്പം വിശ്രമിച്ചശേഷം വീണ്ടും ഉണര്‍ന്ന്‌ നിന്റെ
കയ്യില്‍ ചുറ്റി ഒരു കരിവണ്ടിനെപ്പോലെ
ചുറ്റിപറന്ന്‌ വീഴുന്ന ശബ്ദവും ഞാന്‍ കേൾക്കുന്നു.
ഇന്നലെ വരെ വെറും ജഡമായിരുന്നു ആ ശില.
ഇന്ന്‌ നീയതില്‍ *കരുണ’യുടെഭാവഗാനത്തെ
തൊട്ടുണര്‍ത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ഞാനും നിന്നോടൊപ്പം
ഉറങ്ങുകയും ഉണരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
നിന്റെ കണ്ണീരുറഞ്ഞ്‌ ജീവന്‍ പ്രാപിച്ച “പിയത്ത്‌’ ]
എന്ന ശില്ലയത്തെ ഞാനെന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍

ശീലുകളോടുള്ള ആഭിമുഖ്യം, ഗാനാത്മകത, ;
ലയഭംഗി, ആശയഗഹനത, താളഭംഗി
ഇതൊക്കെയാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ
സവിശേഷതകള്‍. അക്ഷരം, ഉപ്പ്‌, കറുത്ത
പക്ഷിയുടെ പാട്ട്‌ ഭൂമിക്കൊരു ചരമഗീതം,
